Demise of Mudiyappu Remadious - a passionate human rights lawyer

We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Mudiyappu Remadious who died on February 10th morning (10.02. 2023) succumbing to his injuries caused by a motor accident. A passionate human rights lawyer, Mr. Remadious joined CHRD as a legal officer in the Legal Assistance Program.

He became an integral part of the organization as result of his relentless work and commitment ensuring justice for human rights violations that took place at the time. Remadious successfully handled several cases involving prisoners charged under the PTA. He was genuinely concerned about the welfare of the prisoners. When there was a need to open a sub office in Jaffna, Remadious was the natural choice to head it. He willingly accepted the new responsibility unmindful of the risks that he had to face at the time. Remadious handled a large number of Habeas Corpus cases in Jaffna in the face of intimidation and threats.

Remadious was a much sought after criminal lawyer in the Jaffna peninsula. He was elected to the Jaffna Municipal Council by popular vote. He leaves behind his wife and three children.
