IP Nishantha’s transfer cancelled

2018-11-19

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Officer in Charge (OIC) Nishantha Silva’s transfer to Negombo was cancelled with immediate effect by the senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) D.W.R.B. Senavirathne of CID on November 19, 2018.

DIG Senavirathne was bold enough to stand against the unjustifiable transfer of one of the best officers of CID Nishantha Silva who handled highly sensitive cases; was the chief investigator on 11 youth abduction case by the Navy in which Sri Lanka’s top Navy officer Ravi Wijeguneratne is involved, he handled cases involving the murders of Lasantha, cartoonist Pradeep Eknaligoda, abductions of Keith Noyahr and many others.

Transfer order of OIC Nishantha Silva was passed by President Maithripala Sirisena to buckle high profile cases as mentioned above which is totally unfair as a decent society never puts life of investigators in risk. Meanwhile, Ahimsa Wickramathunga daughter of murdered Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickramathunga wrote a moving letter to President Maithripala Sirisena on the following day requesting him to stop the transfer of IP Nishantha Silva.
