CHRD conducted an awareness training program in the Mannar district

2018-11-12

CHRD held an awareness training program in Adampan Village of Mannar district on November 12, 2018.

Civilians from Vattakandal, Andankulam, Mundampitti, Ilupukaduvai, Parapankadanthan Grama Seveka (G.S) divisions participated and expressed the hardships they face.

It is apt to mention that members of CHRD raised a question from the participants of who could be the victims of both Thiruketheeshwaram as well as the Lanka Sathosa Mass grave, to which the Participants responded that the victims could be Tamils who tried to flee to India between the late 1980’s and the early 2000’s.

These villagers are provided with certain incentives by the Government to divert their minds from getting freedom and justice. CHRD staff raised another question about the current political instability in the country to which the participants responded that Mr. Mahinda Rajapakshe holding position as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka might create a tense situation in the country and will develop fear among people. It is apt to mention that the participants opinion on the present so called “Good Governance” is no difference to former President’s reign as there is no justice for the Tamils.

Some of the solutions the participants expect for their problems are that; Tamil Political parties must work together for the betterment of Tamils, Land grabbing must be stopped and military camps in civilian land must be removed, Life loss of Tamil civilians must not occur as what took place in 2009 and importantly justice for Tamils have to be obtained.
