Academics request PM to monitor foreign funding transactions of NGOs

2018-11-01

A group of university professors have put forward 5 proposals to the newly appointed Prime Minister on November 1, 2018.

During the discussion held at the Prime Minister’s office on the said date the group of Academics have presented the 5 proposals to the Prime Minister. It is important to note that two of the proposals highlighted the following:

1. Resolution 30/1 has to be abolished, as Mr. Mangala Samaraweera then foreign minister (in 2015) arbitrarily cosponsored the above-mentioned resolution without the proper approval of the Government which led to the OISL High Commissioners report to be published.

2. Direct foreign funding sources to Sri Lankan NGOs to be blocked and the activities of the NGOs to be monitored and brought under the supervision of a state mechanism.
