A meeting was held by the OMP to mark the international day of the disappeared

A meeting was held by the Office of the Missing Persons (OMP) at J.R. Jayawardena center on August 30, 2018 to mark the international day for the disappeared.

Members of the OMP, commissioners of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, diplomatic missions, religious leaders, Human rights activists as well as families of the disappeared participated in the meeting.

The OMP chairman PC Saliya Pieris said that in some parts of the country people do not hold trust in the OMP, however the OMP will obtain justice and accountability for the families of the disappeared. Mr. Pieris further added that the OMP encourages that the members of the families of the disappeared receives employment, education and funds for their livelihood but the objective of the OMP is to find justice for them.

Dr. Deepika Udagama, Chairman of the of the Human rights Council said that people have to look in an empathetical view of what happened to the disappeared and what hardships their families face over the years.
